Community Day Services
Marc Community Resources, Inc. currently provides Community Day Services (CDS) to over 180 adults at four state of the art technology locations. Community Day Services is provided to adults who have disabilities in center based and community settings to provide opportunities for community inclusion, the use of naturally occurring community supports and to facilitate skill development. The CDS program is designed to provide individuals with choices in all of their daily activities. Depending on the size of the site, there are three to five activity choices offered at any given hour. The activities offered provide skill reinforcement or education in five major areas of human development: cognitive, social/emotional, gross motor, fine motor and self help. The individual gives direct input in developing the activity schedule for each site. Each individual’s support plan objectives are implemented through their participation in these activities.
Activities are designed to be age and developmentally appropriate. Support is given for the individuals to access the community for shopping, transportation, recreation, community events, and to attend such venues as sporting events and museums, etc. Each program location features SmartBoards, Ipads, Kindles, Snoozelen equipment rooms, Music Therapy, Professionally instructed Zumba classes and at select locations, hydro therapy. Day programs teach proper nutrition, the importance of exercise, how to manage one’s health, money skills and cooking. More than 80% of those participating in Marc’s day programs have a health and wellness goal for themselves to enhance their quality of life.
Community Day Services provide staffing supervision and support to enable individuals to acquire the skills necessary to enhance their ability to participate in and contribute to their communities, stretching their abilities further than they ever dreamed. Community Day Services also assists individuals to gain the skills necessary to achieve future employment opportunities. These services include providing guidance and support to perform activities of daily living, including personal care; health and safety; computer skills, community mobility; health and wellness, cultural identity supports; relationship building; community volunteerism; and personal rights and citizenship.
When an individual enters Marc Community Day Services, an individual team is assembled. This team of professionals assists with a skill assessment after the first 20 days of service. The team then meets with the individual and their invitees to discuss the individual’s/family’s needs, wants, desires and preferences along with the assessment results. Together the team develops the individual program plan to guide all future services. One by one skills are acquired, independence is increased and accomplishments abound.
Marc’s day services offers pre-vocational training in simulated settings to allow individuals to explore their desire to enter into employment. Close to 20% of those served in day services split their week between day services and employment services, especially while building their stamina for an eight hour work day. In addition to simulated work activity, individuals are able to participate in community volunteer activities of their choosing to further develop their work skills. Becoming more self-sufficient through work skill development is a goal of Marc’s day services. Transitioning more than 10% of those served in day services into a work setting is a program goal annually. Individuals can customize their day and week to best fit them.
Marc’s day services staffing ratio averages 1 staff to 3.1 adults served at each site. This personalized attention enhances the learning environment and is based on the individual’s needs and preferences. Staff are provided all their training prior to working with individuals served. These 76 hours of training prepare our staff to best meet the needs of all those served. Our direct care staff are over age 21 and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Marc’s Music Therapist has a Masters Degree in Music Therapy from Arizona State University. Our Zumba instructor is a certified Zumba instructor.
